“Sorrow is knowledge; they who know most mourn the deepest o’er the fatal truth. The Tree of Knowledge is not that of Life.”
Why do we then forge relentlessly ahead in our pursuit of knowledge? The vain, superficial man lives more closely to joy than the other who spends all his time conquering the realms of thought. Perhaps it is better to be ignorant of the problematic warps and wefts in this web of the world; better to live our human lives in comfortable deception than harsh truth. After all, the greatest of all human pursuits is happiness, and thus has no place for knowledge.
