Giving up

By the end of tonight, I shall have given up pushing that dreadful boulder up the hill; I know it will only fall back down. One must admire Sisyphus for his fortitude, who does this repeatedly without ever relenting. Even in the face of futility is he hopeful: maybe this time I’ll succeed. But he never does. The boulder will never reach the top.
