Why do you, my friend, keep lamenting your insuppressible pride and at the same time keep promoting your poetic lamentations and your mission to conquer it? Is it not self-defeating? You have fallen into the very trap you sought to escape. It might perhaps do your spirit better if you kept those lamentations to yourself; if you withheld presenting your writings on a grand stage. Let no one see them, that remarkable work you have done; the clarity you have found and the task you have promised to undertake. Let no one hear of your impassioned cries of victory, nor of those tenuous streaks of courage. Let nothing of what you write go beyond the private sphere. Deep in your heart, you know the truth – pride has still its grip on you.
